Where is NMEDD?
The Northern Maine Economic Development District consists of 71 municipalities and 137 unorganized territories in Aroostook County, and parts of Piscataquis, Penobscot, and Washington Counties. The region is grounded within three main industry sectors: the potato growing/processing industry, the forest products industry, and the manufacturing industry, with large firms having hundreds of employees to small businesses with one or two. NMDC’s service area is home to 76,330 people. The average population of communities in this region is 1,018 with Presque Isle being the most populous with 9,511 residents. Most other municipalities are much smaller with fewer than 3,500 residents.
